Symptoms of Cracked Teeth
You may experience a variety of symptoms with a cracked tooth, from erratic pain that occurs while chewing or biting, to sharp pain when your cracked tooth is exposed to extreme temperatures (hot or cold). You may also feel a constant or dull pain.
This is not a problem to ignore. The crack means the hard outer part of the tooth is broken, which can cause pulp irritation when you chew. Eventually, the pulp becomes so damaged that it can no longer heal itself and could potentially cause a deep infection, needing additional treatment from our team.

- A fractured cusp is when a piece of a tooth’s chewing surface breaks off, often around a filling.
- A cracked tooth means the crack extends from the chewing surface of your tooth vertically toward the root.
- A split tooth is identified by a crack with distinct segments that can be separated.
