What is an Implant-Supported Bridge?

An implant-supported bridge is a series of replacement teeth that are held in place by two or more dental implants, rather than by crowning the natural teeth on either side of the gap. Titanium implant posts are placed in the jawbone, and once they’ve fused with the bone, a custom-made bridge is attached to the implants, replacing several missing teeth at once.

Because the bridge is supported by implants instead of natural teeth, we don’t need to alter or grind down any of your remaining healthy teeth to place it.

Who Should Get an Implant-Supported Bridge?

Implant-supported bridges are an excellent option for patients who are missing three or more consecutive teeth and have enough healthy jawbone to support dental implants. This solution offers the strength and stability of individual implants, without the cost and time of replacing every single missing tooth with its own implant.

If your surrounding teeth are already weak or you’d prefer not to use them for support, an implant-supported bridge may be a better fit than a traditional bridge or removable partial denture.

What Happens During the Implant-Supported Bridge Process?

The process begins with a thorough evaluation of your jawbone and oral health to determine if you’re a good candidate for implants. If you have adequate bone structure, we place the implant posts directly into your jawbone in a minor surgical procedure.

Over the next few months, your jawbone will heal and fuse with the implants, a process called osseointegration. During this time, we may provide a temporary bridge to protect the area and maintain your smile’s appearance.

Once healing is complete, we take precise measurements and impressions of your mouth to design a custom bridge that blends seamlessly with your natural teeth. Finally, the permanent bridge is securely attached to the implants, restoring your full bite strength and smile.
